CAMP RISHON – SUMMER DAY CAMP

SyraCruisin' teen travel camp openings still available

With summer vacation upon us, don’t let your teen sit around texting or being bored all day when there’s plenty of fun and adventure to be had at summer camp. That’s right, teens are not too old to still attend summer camp at the Sam Pomeranz Jewish Community Center of Syracuse.

This weekly day camp for young teens entering grades 7–10 runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with options  to extend each camp day from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. SyraCruisin’ offers teens the opportunity to make new friends and embark on a new adventure each day. The camp’s local and regional field trips encourage social and cultural awareness, community service, team building and fun—of course!

Every SyraCruisin’ session will feature different field trips so each week will be completely different from the next. Overnight trips around New York State will take place four out of the camp’s seven weeks. Except for the overnights, each camp day begins and ends at the JCC on 5655 Thompson Rd. in DeWitt.

“We’re excited to be hitting the road to some pretty cool places again this summer,” said Mick Hagan, director of Children and Teen Services. “While the teens will no doubt have lots of fun doing things like rock climbing, skateboarding, hiking and more, we’ll also be doing lots of productive activities designed to build character and self esteem.”

Each week SyraCruisin’ campers will be going on three local and/or regional field trips. No field trip will occur twice this summer. One day each week will be spent at the JCC campus and feature various activities, games, swimming, organized sports and more. One community service day each week will allow the teens to “give back” to the community by volunteering at the JCC Camp Rishon’s school-age camps or other local nonprofit organizations. Everyone will earn certificates of completion for these service hours. All field trips and fees are included in the price of camp.

Current JCC membership or program enrollment is not necessary for a teen to attend SyraCruisin’. However, JCC members receive a discount.

Other JCC summer camp teen and pre-teen programs include camp aide, counselor in training (CIT) and fitness training classes. Enrollment for these programs and classes are on a weekly basis. Both the camp aide and CIT programs require current JCC family membership to enroll.
