starts April 15

The JCC of Syracuse will host a Bricks 4 Kidz afterschool program on Wednesdays starting April 15 from 4:30–5:30 p.m. at the JCC on 5655 Thompson Rd. in DeWitt. The six-week interactive program for school-age children in grades K-6 will get them to learn, build and play with LEGO bricks. The session’s ticket to ride theme will have kids building amusement park rides.

“We’re really excited to be offering this Bricks 4 Kidz program for the first time here at the JCC,” said Mick Hagan, the JCC’s director of Children and Teen Services. “LEGOs are so cool, it seems like they never go out of style. I’m so confident that the kids will love the program, we’ve even added a Bricks 4 Kidz summer camp session this summer.”

Bricks 4 Kidz activities are built around proprietary model plans designed by engineers and architects. Children in the JCC Bricks 4 Kidz program will delve into the history and mechanics of popular amusement park rides. Students will construct a Carousel Swing, Tilt a Whirl, Loop de Loop ride, Swing boat ride and Merry Go Round. Lessons will incorporate principles of physics, described in a way children can understand, as well as math concepts. The engaging lessons will give students an understanding of the physical forces that they experience every day.
