JCC to host SLUT: The Play April 3

The JCC of Syracuse will host a performance of SLUT: The Play, by Katie Cappiello, on Monday, April 3 at 7 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public.

SLUT: The Play follows the journey of Joey Del Marco, a 16-year-old girl who is sexually assaulted by three friends during a night out. Through Joey’s story and those of young people in her community, witness the impact of rape culture and the importance of being heard. The play has been called a “riveting drama” by New York Magazine, “a powerhouse” by Time Out New York, and “hard-hitting” by The New York Post.

The Central New York production of SLUT features eleven youth actors from across Onondaga County. The performances are part of Syracuse StopSlut Week, which was developed in collaboration with the Arts Effect All-Girl Theater Company.

Four other performances of SLUT: The Play also will be held as follows:

Sunday, April 2, 7:00 pm
Redhouse Arts Center

Tuesday, April 4, 6:00 pm
Southwest Community Center

Wednesday, April 5, 7 pm
Community Folk Art Center

Friday, April 7, 5:30 pm
YWCA of Syracuse and Onondaga County

Each performance will be followed by a talkback panel featuring youth voices and professional perspectives on sexual assault prevention

Trigger Warning: SLUT: The Play contains content about sexual assault. Vera House counselors will be on-call at each performance.
