Bands sought for 16th annual JCC Battle of the Bands

The Sam Pomeranz Jewish Community Center of Syracuse is once again seeking rock and other musical groups to enter and play in its Battle of the Bands concert. This 16th annual competition will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 at 7 p.m. at the JCC. The deadline for bands to register is Jan. 5, 2018.   MORE >

JCC summer camp receives naming gift

Cover of the JCC's 2017 Camp Guide updated with the camp's new name, the JCC Camp Joe and Lynne Romano.The JCC of Syracuse has received a generous naming gift for its summer camp, thus prompting the renaming of the camp to the JCC Camp Joe and Lynne Romano. JCC to host SLUT: The Play April 3

Free JCC daytrip for teens to Philly Dec. 11

National Museum of American Jewish History logo.The JCC of Syracuse, in collaboration with area synagogues, will host a free "JCC Teen Initiative" excursion for students in grades 8-12 to the National Museum of American Jewish History on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016. The trip will run from 8 a.m. to around 10:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required.  MORE >

JCC's teen campers take an eco excursion

Throw trash away icon.A group of teenagers in the JCC’s summer camp recently got a hands-on lesson in going “green” when it comes to trash. The JCC of Syracuse’s SyraCruisin’ Teen Travel Camp visited the Covanta Waste to Energy facility in Jamesville on July 26 to volunteer for a roadside litter cleanup and learn about sustainable waste management.  MORE >

Teen pool party at the JCC August 28

Photo of beach balls floating in a pool.Jewish teens throughout the Syracuse area are invited to an end-of-summer bash on Sunday, Aug. 28 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the JCC of Syracuse. The pool party, open to high school students entering grades 9–12, will include swimming and a kosher barbeque. Registration is required.   MORE >

The Cuddlefish win 14th annual JCC Battle of the Bands

Alternative ska band The Cuddlefish from Onondaga High School won the JCC's Battle of the Bands competition on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016. The concert, held at the JCC, drew 350 people to see eight high school bands from across Central New York compete. Casual Plaid wins 13th annual JCC Battle of the Bands

Progressive roots-rock bluegrass band Casual Plaid from Marcellus High School won the JCC's Battle of the Bands competition on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015. The concert, held at The Syracuse Project 4 Our Teens (SPOT), the JCC's teen center in ShoppingTown Mall, DeWitt, drew over 250 people to see the six high school bands from across Onondaga County compete.
